Davonte “The Ticket” Gaines chooses the VOLS

Davonte Gaines and Coach Tyree Parker

Buffalo, NY – Health Science Head Coach and Director of Corey Graham Elite Tyree Parker is still making impressions in Upstate NY by introducing Davonte Gaines also know as “The Ticket” to the basketball circuit.  When talking to Coach Parker a year ago, he was always up beat when mentioning Gaines and his abilities.  Parker predicted Gaines was next.  “He’s the next player to go Division 1 out of this area, He can really play! ”  This year has been a great for the Buffalo native Gaines, picking up multiple offers ( Niagara, University of Buffalo, Hampton, Rhode Island, Monmouth, Canisius, and Kent State). Eventually verbally committing to the University of Tennessee, Gaines mentioned.  “It’s Been A long journey and honestly I never thought I would be in this position that I am.  It all happened so quickly, I joined the circuit world last year and it was all brand new to me.  As a freshman I seen all the videos, the players getting offers but I never thought I would be in the same position they were in. I come a long way. Played jv my freshman year and just never really thought of the circumstances that I’m in today.  I’m blessed to have the supporting cast that I do.”

Coach Barnes and the Volunteers extended a scholarship offer to the 2019 small forward after their Elite Camp.  Gaines is one of the few players out the Buffalo area going to extend their basketball career at a D1 level.  The State Prospect stands at No. 9 in the 24/7 Sports composite ratings.  Gaines hard work ethic is showing as he continues to grow and maximize his opportunities on the court.  “I remained humble. Have to continue to play like I’m a nobody.  I just remind myself that there was a point and time not long ago where a single college coach didn’t know who I was.  I’m going to continue to play with that chip on my shoulder & play with the demeanor that I have something to prove.”
