USF takes a tough loss to The Citadel
TAMPA, FL- USF men’s basketball comes into this contest 4-1 looking to build on their phenomenal start to the season yesterday at the Yuengling Center. At home, Coach Brian Gregory and the Bulls are 3-0 but they faced a hungry 3-2 team in The Citadel whose loses only came from #22 Clemson and Texas.
The Bulldogs shoots consistently from long range. They average just over 37 three point attempts per game and showed no drop off in this match up. In a close match, The Citadel pushed out a victory over USF 84 to 81, lead by Lew Stallworth (25 pts) and Kaiden Rice (22 pts).
The Bulldogs shot 16-36 from the arc; making it the highest three point makes in the USF gym and got 35 points from the bench to help get past the hot USF Bulls team. USF started well in the first half establishing points in the interior and points off attacking the paint with an advantage of 20-6 but they only shot 2-12 from the three point area. Since the Bulls didn’t continuing to pressure and attack the Bulldogs interior defense throughout the contest (mainly the 2nd half) and only getting 12 points from their bench, this was a overwhelming factor in the Bulls defeat.
