Big guys shine at the “THEworkout” by Nike Team Florida
September 27, 2016
Nike Team Florida put together some of the best talent in the State of Florida and showcased them at “The Workout” at Sarasota Riverview High School. From our notes here some players that stood out.
Darius Days came to show out! His performance that day showed that you can’t forget what he his capable of doing. He’s a coast to coast player with the ball or without, too aggressive for smaller forwards and too fast for bigger post players. He’s play in the post to displays his size and can torcher guys with physical play. Sometimes his ball handling can be sketchy and shooting range is limited. However, days will continue to rack up offers in the up coming months.
Big players do big things, Nike Team Florida’s Vernon Carey made the most of his opportunities in the paint. Carey showed footwork and incredible post skill work during drill sessions. The ability to use his body to finish strong at the rim, physical and play defense is Carey’s strong points. His picking up offers rapidly from such schools as Baylor, Florida, Miami and Louisville. The sophomore is still learning and can work on post positioning with his back to the basket.
Three’s a charm when in came to displaying the 3rd big man of the day in Balsa Koprivica. NSU University School has a stud in 2019 7’2″ Koprivica. He has good movements without the ball, passes well and processes a soft shooting touch. Koprivica strength is in his height but needs to polish his post play around the basket. Since shedding about 20 lbs has made him stronger and helped him add more skill to his game.
Standouts:
2017 6’4″ SG Jonathan Bryant of Oakleaf HS, 2020 6’7″ F Scottie Barnes of Cardinal Newman, 2018 6’2″ G Jeremiah Saunders of NSU University School, 2018 6’7″ F Caleb Edwards of South Fork, 2021 6’3″ G Jordan Shorter of westwood Christian, 2018 6’5″ PG Elijah Weaver of Oldsmar Christian
