2016-2017 9A District 6 Preview

Teams: Riverview (Sarasota)      Newsome     Riverview      Alonso

Riverview ( Sarasota)– will be strong again this year.   Behind the play of standouts Brion Whitley and AJ Cadwell,  Coach Ivey and the Rams should repeat as district champs again.  Were looking for impacts from Jordan Curtis, Tyrun Jackson and Maurice Victor.   Coach Ivey as a great program and it continues to grow.

Returning Impact Players:

2017 6’4″ G Brion Whitley –  is proven as a legitimate threat on the court.  The UNC-Wilmington commit Whitley, is a consistent scorer and a high level competitor.  His summer as been phenomenal playing with Team MOAM.

2017 6’4″ AJ Caldwell – The South Alabama commit shoots the ball well from various spots on the court.

Newsome – Coming off a dismal season going 15-7 overall and 5-4 in districts, the Wolves will look to there guards 2017 Nick Stuck and 2018 Isaiah Islam to be standouts.  Coach Barry Jacobs hasn’t had a losing season since 2012-2013 and had his best season in 2014-2015.

Returning Impact Players:

2017 Nick Stuck – the 6’2″ G is a player who will give his all on both ends and he knows the game extremely well.

Player to Watch:

2018 Isaiah Islam – Islam is capable of being a consistent score for the Wolves, he has good size and fits well in Coach Jacobs system.

Alonso – There’s been improvement with the Ravens with there young core of kids.  Coming of a 20-8 overall season and going 7-3 in district play, Coach Todd Price is getting the most out of his talent.  Looking at 2019 Christian De Leon and 2018 SF Kamalii Findlay to be aggressive.

Returning Impact Players:

2019 PG Christian De Leon – very aggressive PG, loves to run the floor and has a desire to win. This year De Leon will make Alonso very interesting.

2018 SF Kamalii Findlay (x-factor)- will have to give more offensively in order for them to contend with Riverview (Sarasota, Fl).

2017 PF Robert Gadson III (x-factor) – the 6’7″ 225 F has to be the first option on the floor this year.  Gadson has improved on post positioning and establishing a mid range shot.

Riverview – Coach Milton Clifton will have his hands full rebuilding. With the lose of players to graduation, the Sharks have a long season ahead of them.
